Organize a “Click It & Ticket” event where students or staff distribute “Citation of Good Behavior” tickets to those who arrive at school buckled up, and “Warning: Poor Choice” tickets with information on seat belt safety to those who are not. Download ticket template here (insert link).
Explain increased potential of injury when employing high risk behaviors while operating and occupying a vehicle (e.g., distracted driving, impaired driving, seat belt safety, and pedestrians).
Students will be able to identify and describe the dangers associated with distracted driving, impaired driving, improper seat belt use, and pedestrian risks.
Conduct a week-long “Click It & Ticket” campaign. Organize student volunteers to monitor school arrival areas each morning, distributing “Citation of Good Behavior” tickets to those wearing seatbelts and “Warning: Poor Choice” tickets with safety information to those who are not. Create a visual display in a prominent school location to track daily seatbelt usage rates throughout the week.
Analyze the data collected during the “Click It & Ticket” campaign. Compare the percentage of students wearing seatbelts at the beginning and end of the week. Have students write a brief reflection on the campaign’s impact, including observed changes in behavior and suggestions for future safety initiatives.
