> Be In the Zone High School Lesson Plan

Create a PSA to encourage others to avoid driving distracted, and potentially submit to win a prize through Be In The Zone Program.

Explain increased potential of injury when employing high risk behaviors while operating and occupying a vehicle (e.g., distracted driving, impaired driving, seat belt safety, and pedestrians).

Students will be able to identify and describe the dangers associated with distracted driving, impaired driving, improper seat belt use, and pedestrian risks.

  • What are some common forms of distracted driving, and how do they increase the risk of accidents?
  • How does impaired driving affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely, and what are the potential consequences?
  • Why is proper seat belt use crucial for both drivers and passengers, and how can we encourage more people to buckle up consistently?

Participate in the Be In The Zone (BITZ) program by creating a year-long distracted driving campaign for your school. Develop peer-led awareness initiatives focusing on reducing cell phone use while driving. Create various creative projects such as video PSAs, social media campaigns, or other materials to spread awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.

Evaluate the effectiveness and creativity of the students’ distracted driving campaigns. Review the various components (video PSAs, social media posts, etc.) for clarity of message, engagement potential, and accuracy of information regarding distracted driving risks. Assess students’ understanding of the topic through their ability to communicate the dangers effectively to their peers.
