> TeenDrive365 7th Grade Lesson Plan

Watch the TeenDrive365 Virtual Field Trip video. This video provides an inside look at the innovation and teamwork that goes into designing Toyota vehicles, featuring insights from engineers, mechanics, and safety experts who explore the science behind safe driving. After watching the video, complete the Teen Knowledge Activity from the TeenDrive365 program.

Demonstrate best practices while occupying a vehicle (e.g., distracted driving, impaired driving, seat belt safety, appropriate seating arrangement, and pedestrians).

Describe how the presence of certain elements increases or decreases the risk of injury (seat belt decreases, distracted driving increases).

  • Students will be able to describe how different factors, like seat belts or distracted driving, impact injury risk.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate best practices for safety while in a vehicle, including avoiding distractions, using seat belts properly, and understanding appropriate seating and pedestrian safety.
  • How does wearing a seat belt decrease the risk of injury in a car accident?
  • What are some examples of distracted driving, and how do they increase the risk of accidents?
  • Besides seat belts and avoiding distractions, what other elements can increase or decrease safety while in a vehicle?

Create an interactive glossary of distracted driving terms and concepts. Use this glossary to develop an informative pamphlet on safe driving techniques. In small groups, plan to distribute these pamphlets to peers in an approved location.

Review the interactive glossaries and pamphlets created by students to assess their understanding of key vehicle safety concepts and their ability to communicate this information effectively.
