> SADD Rock the Belt 6th Grade Lesson Plan

Download the Rock the Belt Toolkit from the SADD website. Review the materials, then choose and implement two activities from the kit in your school to promote seat belt safety awareness.

Discuss the importance of using seat belts while being a passenger to protect from injury or death.

Compare ways to reduce and/or prevent injuries related to vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians etc.

  • Students will identify and compare different ways to reduce and prevent injuries when using vehicles, bikes, and as pedestrians.
  • Students will understand the importance of always wearing a seat belt as a passenger to protect themselves from injury or death.
  • Why do some people choose not to wear seat belts, and how can we encourage them to change this habit?
  • What are the most common causes of bike and pedestrian accidents in our area, and how can we prevent them?
  • How does distracted driving increase the risk of injury for both drivers and passengers, and what strategies can we use to avoid it?”

Have students complete two “Rock the Belt” campaign activities, such as the Quick-Click Challenge, “Chalk the Walk”, Seat Belt Selfie, Duct Tape Safety Belts/”Fasten Show”, or School Announcements.

Review students’ completion of two Rock the Belt activities to assess their understanding of key vehicle safety concepts and their ability to communicate this information effectively.
