> Ollie Otter 5th Grade Lesson Plan

Request an in-person presentation or set a date for a virtual option and receive an Ollie Otter School Kit at OllieOtter.org.

Identify best practices of occupant safety (not being a distraction in the vehicle, normalizing booster seats and seat belts, and driver awareness in work zones, school crossing, etc.).

By the end of the lesson, students will define and advocate for best practices of occupant safety, including minimizing distractions, promoting booster seats and seat belts, and discussing strategies to ensure safety when choosing who to ride with.

  1. Have you ever been in a situation like one of the ones you saw in the Ollie Otter program?
  2. What are things you can do to keep each individual in your car safe on the roadway?

Ask students to make a short story, comic, or video about an event (real or fictional) related to one of the elements of occupant protection they saw in the Ollie Otter program with a safe, happy ending.

Review student submissions for correct best practices, the use of correct road signs, etc.
