Discuss the importance of being a good passenger by ensuring everyone is buckled and keeping distractions to a minimum.
By the end of the lesson, students will actively participate in discussions about the role of a passenger and demonstrate understanding of minimizing potential distractions to enhance safety.
Make an obstacle course in the room. Blindfold one student as the “driver” and assign one student the role of “GPS.” Have the “GPS” use verbal instructions to guide the “driver” through the course while the rest of the class tries to distract the driver (saying wrong directions, tapping the “driver” on the shoulder, singing, talking, whispering, etc.).
Have students write a pledge to be a good passenger in the car. Write the phrase “I will always be a good passenger because I will” for the students to copy and finish the sentence. Review their “pledge” for lessons learned during the activity.
