> Guest Speaker 6th Grade Lesson Plan

Invite a guest speaker through the THSO Speakers Bureau by completing THSO Speakers Bureau Request Form. Select a guest speaker based on your specific needs, focusing on topics such as Seat Belt Safety and Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety.

Discuss the importance of using seat belts while being a passenger to protect from injury or death.

Compare ways to reduce and/or prevent injuries related to vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians etc.

  • Students will identify and compare different ways to reduce and prevent injuries when using vehicles, bikes, and as pedestrians.
  • Students will understand the importance of always wearing a seat belt as a passenger to protect themselves from injury or death.
  • Why do some people choose not to wear seat belts, and how can we encourage them to change this habit?
  • What are the most common causes of bike and pedestrian accidents in our area, and how can we prevent them?
  • How does distracted driving increase the risk of injury for both drivers and passengers, and what strategies can we use to avoid it?

After the presentation, have the students work in pairs to create a short, catchy slogan promoting either seat belt use, bike safety, or pedestrian awareness.

Collect the slogans and evaluate them for creativity and accurate representation of key safety concepts discussed in the presentation.
