> Guest Speaker 1st Grade Lesson Plan

Invite a guest speaker through the THSO Speakers Bureau by completing THSO Speakers Bureau Request Form. Select a guest speaker based on your specific needs, focusing on the topic of Seat Belt Safety.

Discuss the importance of wearing your seatbelt including making sure you use all parts of the belt, don’t share a seatbelt, wear it every time you are in the car and always sit in the back seat.

Students will understand the importance of wearing a seatbelt correctly, including using all parts of the belt, not sharing a seatbelt, wearing it every time they are in the car, and always sitting in the back seat.

  • Does everyone buckle up when they’re in the car? What are some reasons you might not want to wear a seatbelt?
  • Why do we wear a seatbelt? What could happen if we don’t wear our seatbelt?
  • What are some ways you can help everyone in your car remember to always wear a seatbelt?

As students exit the presentation, have them demonstrate proper seatbelt positioning by showing where the belt should go across their shoulders and around their waist. This will serve as their “exit ticket” from the event.

Observe students’ demonstrations to ensure they correctly indicate the proper position of the shoulder belt (across the chest) and lap belt (low across the hips and upper thighs).
