> Guest Speaker 7th Grade Lesson Plan

Invite a guest speaker through the THSO Speakers Bureau by completing the THSO Speakers Bureau Request Form. Select a guest speaker based on your specific needs, focusing on topics such as Seat Belt Safety, Distracted Driving, and Impaired Driving.

Demonstrate best practices while occupying a vehicle (e.g., distracted driving, impaired driving, seat belt safety, appropriate seating arrangement, and pedestrians).

Describe how the presence of certain elements increases or decreases the risk of injury (seat belt decreases, distracted driving increases).

  • Students will describe how different factors, like seat belts or distracted driving, impact injury risk.
  • Students will demonstrate best practices for safety while in a vehicle, including avoiding distractions, using seat belts properly, and understanding appropriate seating and pedestrian safety.
  • How does wearing a seat belt decrease the risk of injury in a car accident?
  • What are some examples of distracted driving, and how do they increase the risk of accidents?
  • Besides seat belts and avoiding distractions, what other elements can increase or decrease safety while in a vehicle?

As students leave, have them work in pairs to identify a common driving distraction and propose a practical solution to prevent it.

Listen to students’ proposed solutions and evaluate them for creativity, practicality, and alignment with safety principles discussed in the presentation.
